Back to our Roots: nature inspired colour palettes

1st June 2022

Throughout June we are showcasing some of our all-time favourite, original colours in honour of our 20th Anniversary. This month we are going back to our roots, focusing on a carefully selected nature inspired colour palette from our Claypaint range, using shades that have proven to withstand the test of time.

What are the best nature inspired colours for a beautiful home?

Freckle

Nature inspired colour palette - Earthborn Freckle paint

This easy going, subdued orange obtains its character from the ochre and terracotta clays that it is blended from. Naturally highly pigmented, Freckle is reminiscent of warmer climates helping you bring sunshine indoors, all year round.

Freckle surprisingly works well with most colours ranging from cooler grey hues such as Tuffet and Hippo-Hooray to deep burnt reds like Lady Bug.

Straw

Nature inspired colour palette - Earthborn Straw paint

Looking to bring a subtle warmth indoors? Straw is a classic favourite because it’s such an easy-going colour that suits any room. Although it holds its own, Straw works with other neutral tones and warmer yellows and oranges.

To keep your space bright and airy try pairing with our creamy White Clay or neutral colour Hopscotch. Accessorise by using lots of different textures in your upholstery for the ultimate cosy retreat.

Donkey Ride

Nature inspired colour palette - Earthborn Donkey Ride paint

Continuing with the neutral theme Donkey Ride is a versatile, stable colour that combines several tones, creating a complex and soft beige. Resembling the natural colour of dried clay, Donkey Ride partnered with similar earthy tones is perfect for a Scandi-inspired theme.

For a modern and inviting colour palette, use Donkey Ride alongside Feather Pillow or Wood Smoke. To be in keeping with Scandi interiors opt for minimalistic furniture, focusing on function rather than clutter and any accessories should be kept neutral.

Lily Lily Rose

Of course, we couldn’t go back to our roots without mentioning our colour of the year. A subtle shade of pink, lilac and grey all blended to provide a colour of surprising depth, Lily Lily Rose is the perfect nod to summer lilacs growing at this time of year.

Lily Lily Rose is super versatile working in many different schemes (dive into Lily Lily Rose combinations), but as we are focusing on bringing the outdoors in, we suggest partnering with Tom’s Bakery or Paw Print for a relaxing country home feel.

Muddy Boots

Nature inspired colour palette - Earthborn Muddy Boots paint

Speaking of country interiors, nothing beats kicking off a colour scheme than Muddy Boots. A lovely warm colour, Muddy Boots is ideally suited to rustic, country inspired homes. This fawny-tawny tone of brown is most compatible with deeper colours that have warm undertones.

To add a bit of colour, consider using with our greens Secret Room or Sunday Stroll to create a calm space to unwind. For a more striking scheme choose White Clay or Up Up Away, a contrasting colour against Muddy Boots adds interest to any room whilst still being easy to live with.

Seagull

Nature inspired colour palette - Earthborn Seagull paint

When we think of Seagull, we think of vast open spaces and freedom – which makes it perfect for bringing a slice of nature indoors. A warm, pale grey with just a hint of green, Seagull is both soft and soothing in colour.

For a refreshing scheme, combine with Sapling or Grassy which will enhance the hint of green in Seagull. If you prefer to highlight the greyness of this colour, use in a north facing room along side cooler shades like Nellie or Tick-Tock.
